Every aspect of a person’s life is taken into consideration and addressed in the healing process. The Recovery Center of Westport expands the scope of attention from the emotional, cognitive, and psychological issues of each client, to address concerns of physical, spiritual, and social well-being.

Stressors relating to chronic illness, relationship conflicts, work and/or academic performance, and economic challenges, if relevant to the client’s well-being are actively acknowledged in each meeting. Clients are guided in ways that may help manage stress so that exhaustion and the break: down of defenses can be averted. An emphasis is placed in helping our clients develop a capacity to participate more fully in the family, community, work or academic life, if that is of value to them.

Consciousness is critical to rejuvenation. Medications, when appropriate, may be helpful but cannot do what the client may need to do for him/herself. Every client is encouraged to define for themselves a practice of self-care that helps them be an active participant in their healing. The learning of skills for coping with pain, stress, and suffering are as important as a medication regimen.

The mind and body are not separate. Both require good nutrition, exercise, stable sleep, and quiet time for self presence. Each pillar of health is assessed in every meeting.
